“Reintroducing” Doug Wright

Mission Federal Credit Union’s (Mission Fed) Board of Directors unanimously appointed Doug Wright as Mission Fed’s next President and Chief Executive Officer, inheriting the helm from Debra Schwartz, who retired after 17 years at the organization. Wright officially took over March 1, 2024, after previously serving as Chief Financial Officer of the organization since 2016, and brings more than 25 years of experience in commercial and community banking.

“We have full confidence that Doug is the right person to lead Mission Fed into this next chapter and we know members, employees and the community will continue to be supported by Mission Fed for generations to come,” said Dr. Don Shelton, Chairman of the Board at Mission Fed.

Wright is no stranger to the San Diego community. He grew up in Idaho, but has embraced San Diego as home with his family for the last decade. He came for a role at another financial institution, but was immediately contacted by Mission Fed. “I discovered how deeply and uniquely committed Mission Fed is to the financial well-being of its members and to the greater San Diego community,” said Wright.” That encouraged me to apply, and I am so glad I did. It has been an amazing experience!”

Wright’s dedication to community shines through with his active participation in nonprofit boards and commitment to financial literacy for all. Giving back is a deeply ingrained core value for him. “Both of my parents emphasized how important and rewarding it was to help others from very early in my life,” Wright shared with GB Magazine. “I have particular passions for helping children, tackling food insecurity, and improving literacy – both financial and general.”

Mission Fed has been an engaged community partner for over 60 years, and its core mission has remained the same: Earning trust, investing in its members’ success, and caring for the community. It is the credit union’s way to achieve the double-bottom line goal of serving members and the community.
