“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
– Walt Disney
The goal of the San Diego Police Foundation is simple, yet essential: to create a safer San Diego. That means safety for all who live, work, and play in San Diego. Supported by community contributions since its founding in 1998, the San Diego Police Foundation funds equipment, training, and outreach programs vital to creating safer communities. Vilen Vlasov is an Emeritus Trustee of the San Diego Police Foundation and is Chair of their K9 Champions Campaign.
#1 I was born in the Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States with my family in 1991.
#2 My parents are the most hardworking, loving, and honest people! They are always there to show love, support, and guidance. They are also the most amazing grandparents to our two kids.
#3 Once my kids are older, I would love to take my family to Russia so they can experience the culture.
#4 I love traveling to Europe to experience centuries-old culture and architecture. I hope to visit Italy, Spain, Africa, Thailand, and the Maldives.
#5 It does not matter what kind of day I had or how I am feeling, whenever I start gardening it gives me peace of mind and additional energy.
#6 We have a crazy and adventurous 1-½ year-old Shepherd Mix named Max and two 13-year-old cats, Mishka and Molly.
#7 In 2012, as a VCA Animal Hospital manager, I had the opportunity to talk with K9 handlers when they would bring their dogs in for various appointments. It was through these conversations that I learned about the San Diego Police Foundation and the amazing work that they do.
#8 My involvement is a small way for me to show appreciation to our officers. I know how hard they work, and I now have a better understanding of how much it takes to protect our community.
#9 For the past 21 years, every police service dog at the San Diego Police Department has been purchased with funds donated by the community through the San Diego Police Foundation. These specialized canines safeguard public events, find missing persons, locate evidence, de-escalate dangerous situations, prevent shootings, and preserve life. The dogs can clear areas before officers approach on foot, and can perform searches for fleeing and hidden suspects in urban areas, canyons, or buildings. Because the canines can cover up to four times the distance as their human partners, each dog saves SDPD nearly 700 service hours each year.
#10 A portion of the proceeds from Cirque du Soirée will go towards the K9 Crimefighter Campaign, ensuring the San Diego Police Department has the police dogs, equipment, and training they need to protect and serve our communities.
