Hunger Action Heroes Comic Book Launch by Feeding San Diego

Feeding San Diego held a party to celebrate the launch of the comic book, “Hunger Action Heroes Unite!” Hunger Halter and Demeter were created by two local students stemming from an art contest organized by Feeding San Diego launched. Artists from all over the region had their chance to create a hunger action hero to represent Feeding San Diego’s mission to end hunger through food rescue. Since their creation, the characters have been brought to life by a Hollywood costume designer, appeared on a panel at Comic-Con, and been featured on news segments. The launch celebration was attended by Natalie Underdown, Courtney Gant, Cherie Froker, Michelle Rickwa, Kate Rickwa, Alison Glader, Josie Miguel, Sirenna Ascencio, and Emma Collins. The event also marked the debut of the characters’ very own comic book, aimed at young readers who want to learn more about hunger relief and food rescue.

Esteban Villanueva was born in Washington D.C. and raised in La Jolla. He attended both Francis Parker and The Bishop’s School locally before going to Dartmouth College where he received his B.S. in Biology and Pepperdine School of Law where he received his J.D. focusing Entertainment Law. He worked in the Latin music industry where his projects went on to win 14 Grammy Awards for artists including Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana. After starting GB Magazine with Danitza Villanueva in 2007, he has gone on to win awards and recognition from the community for his support of helping raise millions of dollars for non-profit organizations. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Air & Space Museum and resides in East County in San Diego where he and his wife Danitza run DAESVI Publishing, home to GB Magazine, among several other publications.
