Workshops for Warriors From Service to Strength

Share

Every day in America, veterans transition out of uniform with world-class skills, discipline, and a drive to serve. Yet too often, they exit into uncertainty as they enter the civilian workforce.

Workshops for Warriors (WFW), based here in San Diego, exists to change that story. Since 2008, WFW has trained and certified over 1,600 veterans, service members, and civilians in advanced manufacturing. Every graduate earns nationally recognized credentials in machining or welding, and most are hired into a career-track job within 90 days.

The mission is simple but powerful: rebuild America’s workforce by turning proven warriors into certified technicians, welders, and machinists. Students train on industry-current equipment, earn credentials through the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), American Welding Society, and SolidWorks, and step directly into high-demand fields. Just as importantly, they find purpose, structure, and community – a continuation of the mission they embraced in uniform.

Now, WFW is at a historic turning point. At 3030 Main Street in Barrio Logan near the shipyards, the organization has built a new CNC Machining Training Facility that doubles the training capacity and brings even more veterans into the industries that need them most. This facility is not just concrete and steel – it is a promise. A promise that those who raised their right hand to defend America will not be left behind when they return home.

The impact is profound. Austin, a graduate who once served as a radio operator in the Marine Corps, can now program precision CNC machines that produce aerospace components. A Navy veteran and fireman, Alexi, is now a shipyard welder. Each story is proof that the skills forged in service can rebuild American industry – and restore dignity and opportunity to those who served.

Donors now have the chance to cement this legacy. By supporting the capital campaign for 3030 Main Street, they are not just funding a building; they are investing in futures. They are creating a landmark where veterans will be trained, certified, and launched into careers for generations to come.

Workshops for Warriors is asking San Diego’s philanthropic leaders to step forward, just as these men and women once did for their nation. Together, the region can ensure that America’s heroes find their next mission – not in struggle, but in strength. The future of manufacturing, and the future of our veterans, is being built here. One warrior. One career. One gift at a time.
