“If you don’t like something, change it.
If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) provides programs to adults – 22 years of age and older – who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. While there are no cures for intellectual and developmental disabilities, these individuals can still achieve personal and professional fulfillment. It is the mission at SMSC to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Robbin Kulek Lockie is the incoming Board President for St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.
#1 I grew up in Marshallton, Pennsylvania. in the country and had a pony named Sparky. My dad won Sparky in a poker game.
#2 Denmark, Spain and the Cook and Polynesian Islands are my favorite travel destinations. I hope to visit Patagonia, Greenland and Iceland.
#3 “Fried Green Tomatoes” is my favorite movie.
#4 I just recently read “Firefly Lane” by Kristin Hannah; it is about best friends. This book reminds me of how lucky I am to have life-long friends that have always been there for me.
#5 It is on my bucket list to complete a congregate High Behavioral Needs Residential Housing Community where individuals with profound Autism can reside with other Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) individuals in a congregate setting.
#6 I have two French Bulldogs, Lulu and Walter
#7 My son Sammy has taught me patience, living in the moment and to always question the process. And most importantly, life does not always go as planned but enjoy the journey.
#8 Individuals like my son Sammy need an advocate to help them live their best lives. St Madeleine Sophie’s Center is an organization that has approximately 400 Sammys and it is my life’s work to help IDD individuals live their best life.
#9 I was introduced to St Madeleine Sophie’s Center approximately 20 years ago by another parent and Board Member Dick King. I joined the Board at that time as Treasurer. I have always stayed connected with Debra Emerson, Executive Director, and participated on the Finance Committee. In 2021 I rejoined the Board when my son Sammy became a student. St Madeleine Sophie’s Center has a very special place in my heart and it is an honor being nominated as the Board President for the next 3 years.
#10 St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center is deeply grateful for the dedicated and generous supporters who allow us to provide quality programs that benefit adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Continuous support will benefit services that range from our Activity Center to our Seniors Program & Transportation. Each SMSC student is offered a unique array of specialty activities such as art, swimming, gardening, computers, music therapy and more.
