Promises2Kids Reunites Foster Siblings at Camp Connect

Share

Camp Connect reunites brothers and sisters who are separated and living apart in foster care, and this is one of the critical programs offered by local nonprofit, Promises2Kids. Through monthly visits, group outings, and a summer camp, siblings have opportunities to strengthen their relationships while creating lasting memories. Promises2Kids is dedicated to creating a brighter future for foster children in San Diego County, by providing the hope, support, and opportunities they need to change their lives for the better.

Amber (17), Blaze (14), and Cole (11) entered foster care last summer due to severe abuse and neglect and have lived apart ever since. Through Camp Connect, they have had several opportunities to reunite, including a recent visit to Sesame Place.

Upon arriving, their reunion was celebrated with a big group hug. Amber was content to sunbathe on the sand near Big Bird’s Beach but picked a central spot that the boys could return to after each ride and water slide. They excitedly recounted the twists, turns, and splashes over pizza, fries, and other favorites.

Still carrying their innertubes and playfully bopping each other after they had just finished going down a water slide, Blaze swung too hard and accidentally knocked Cole to the ground. More stunned than anything, Cole retreated beneath a tree to collect himself, but Blaze, remorseful and concerned, was not far behind, apologizing and even offering Cole space if he was angry. However, Cole wanted nothing more than to stick beside Blaze. After a tight hug, they took a leisurely trip around Big Bird’s Rambling River before regrouping with Amber.

The day was filled with high emotion, fun, and a sense of shared excitement and hope for the three of them.

Thanks to the generous support from the community, siblings like Amber, Blaze, and Cole, will have the opportunity to reconnect at this month’s 6-day, 5-night summer camp in the mountains. From swimming and horseback riding to playing games and creating scrapbooks, this fun-filled camp adventure will be an experience to remember.
