Patrons of the Prado MASTERPIECE of Giving

Share

It is a family affair for Patrons of the Prado, founded over 28 years ago by four women, among them Barbara McColl, and currently led by her daughter, 2025-26 President Carrie O’Brien. Serving alongside Carrie are her twin sister Bonnie Platt and her niece, Danielle Platt, who both recently joined – making it three generations of one family currently serving in this philanthropic organization. Patrons of the Prado supports arts, culture, history and science centers on the Prado in Balboa Park, including the Fleet Science Center, Mingei International Museum, Museum of Us, San Diego History Center, San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Natural History Museum, The Old Globe, and the Timken Museum of Art.

Since 1997, the all-volunteer group has raised over $6.6 million to help beneficiaries address their greatest needs and to foster the development of innovative programming for residents and visitors. Patrons’ signature educational initiative, “Bucks4Buses,” funds access for San Diego County K–12 schoolchildren to the world-class treasures of Balboa Park, inspiring cultural fluency for future generations.

Patrons’ annual gala fundraiser, “CLUB MASTERPIECE: One Haute Havana Night,” returns this year to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Event co-chairs Debbie Rider and Susan Davey along with Patrons’ members, will transform the venue for one night into a circa-1956 nightclub, reminiscent of Cuba’s golden era when Havana was known as the “Paris of the Caribbean.”  The glamorous evening under the stars will offer craft cocktails, live entertainment, curated silent and live auction items, a multi-course gourmet dinner, dancing, and will feature the “PoP the Cork” Drawing, where one lucky winner receives a vast collection of premier wines.

By joining Patrons’ efforts, supporters make a significant and lasting impact on these special institutions. For tickets, sponsorship, and donation information, please visit www.patronsoftheprado.org.
