Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County’s Impact and Events

Share

One in ten people will experience a seizure in their lifetime and one in twenty-six will be diagnosed with epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County (EFSDC) works to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through education, advocacy, research and connection.

The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County serves the more than 50,000 people in our community and all programs and services free of charge, including counseling, career development, advocacy information and referrals, as well as support groups for individuals, caregivers and families, college scholarships, and specialized programs and support groups for children and teens.

EFSDC recently hosted its 25th Annual Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. event in Mission Bay. This community awareness and fundraising event hosted more than 1,000 bike riders, runners and walkers for a morning filled with music, family fun and kids activities, as well as ice cream from local favorite, Handel’s Ice Cream!

“Sharon’s Ride has not only become a major awareness and fundraising initiative, but a spring tradition for our community to come together outside for a morning of fitness, food and fun,” Wendy Urushima-Conn, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County shared with GB Magazine San Diego.

A Sponsor Marketplace featured many sponsors including presenting sponsor Neurelis, The Neurology Center, Republic Services, SK Life Sciences, UCB, Liva Nova, Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Marinus. Full sponsor list may be viewed on their website.

Thanks to Pedal Ahead, EFSDC was able to raffle off an electric bicycle to an excited crowd who were well-hydrated thanks to Sycuan Casino and Resort and electrolyte partner IV2 and SporTea. Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. raised $130,000 to support its programs and services through sponsorships, team fundraising and donations from the community.

Upcoming events include the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County’s annual Education Conference on Saturday, July 20th at Academy of Our Lady of Peace. Attendees will hear from epileptologists, neurologists, medical professionals and epilepsy experts, as well as a panel of those with lived experiences.
