“We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams”
– Jimmy Carter
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, The Salvation Army assists & serves ANYONE in need regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other factor. Vivian C. Tuck is chairing this year’s Women of Dedication Luncheon.
#1 I was born in America’s finest city, San Diego. My Dad was awesome. He was strong, generous, and powerful.
#2 I have visited six of the seven continents, and each offers something different to enjoy. But Italy was my favorite.
#3 I have not visited Africa yet but will be going this spring. Portugal is the next stop at the top of my list.
#4 Favorite Movie: I thoroughly enjoyed the acting in “Shawshank Redemption”. I also enjoy subtitled foreign films.
#5 Book recommendation: Framed by John Grisham and Jim McCloskey; an astounding true story of wrongful convictions.
#6 Bucket list: A beautiful generational house on the beach.
#7 I came from a family that was raised to give to the community. We were and are a caring family. We care about all humankind.
#8 The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA) changes lives because this dynamic group of women is determined to share their time, their resources and their selves. These women care about San Diego with hearts for service and volunteerism. SAWA raises funds and volunteers for local Salvation Army programs and projects aligning with the mission to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
#9 I was honored as a Woman of Dedication for my community service. My passion was instilled in me by my mother, who was my role model. She too was honored by this organization.
#10 The funds raised from the event will go to support local Salvation Army programs. Each year, the programs submit a wish list to SAWA and SAWA raises enough money to fund all requests. Last year we were able to provide $150,000 to the program wish lists.
