“For our own success to be real,
it must contribute to the success of others.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt
Resounding Joy is a music therapy nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through the healing power of music. Resounding Joy’s credentialed, board-certified music therapists use clinical and evidence-based interventions to help clients achieve their social, cognitive, emotional, motor, physiologic, physical, and mental health goals. Resounding Joy serves people of all ages – from premature infants to those receiving end-of-life care – uplifting individuals and families facing challenging conditions and supporting health and wellness throughout the communities they serve. Sylvia Imm is the Board Chair for Resounding Joy.

#1 Sylvia Imm grew up in Memphis, Tennessee – the home of Elvis Presley, the Blues, and Memphis-style bar-b-que.
#2 One of the most important people in my life was my father, who passed away January 1, 2025. He had so many lessons for me, but the most important was his commitment to servant leadership. He served his family, church, community, and profession consistently throughout his life.
#3 I love the English countryside area known as the Cotswolds for its culture and charm and laid-back vibe. I also spent time during the pandemic traveling the West in an RV, and I loved Montana and Idaho for the wild and open landscapes.
#4 Alaska and Hawaii are on my list of places to go, and I cannot believe it has taken me this long to visit them both.
#5 My bucket list includes: Machu Picchu, walking the entire Camino de Santiago French Way, Pyramids in Egypt and seeing the Northern Lights.

#6 In college, I interned in the Tennessee House of Representatives, and was an intern and staffer for Sen. Al Gore Jr. in Washington.
#7 Sylvia Imm have two favorite movies: “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “The Big Lebowski”.
#8 Right now I am reading “Strength to Strength” by Albert C. Brooks – it is a fascinating way to look at next chapters as you navigate your career and life.
#9 The single most important thing we can do in life is to raise up others. The communities we live in are our responsibility to nurture and develop for not only ourselves and our families, but also for future generations of San Diegans. It is also amazingly fulfilling to me personally.
#10 My son was born with a visual impairment which has left him legally blind. During his school years he received music therapy to help him cope with the stresses and difficulties of adapting and living in a sighted world. Our family had an immense positive impact from my son’s music therapy. The way a skilled, board-certified music therapist can help relieve stress, pain, and traumatic experiences is truly life-giving. I am committed to help Resounding Joy spread that healing to San Diego communities.
