“It’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years”.

The mission of Girl Scouts San Diego is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The organization’s strategic vision is to be viewed and valued as the go-to partner for developing and elevating girl and women leaders in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Beyond traditional leadership development, its relevant programs and experiences foster a sense of well-being in girls, so they are well-rounded individuals poised for success in life. Patti Roscoe is a member of the Cool Woman, Class of 2008 and will Chair the 2026 Cool Women Celebration.

#1 Patti Roscoe grew up in Buffalo, New York. When I was a teenager, I would drive up to Canada to drag race.

#2 New Zealand is my favorite travel destination.

#3 “Love Actually” is my favorite movie.

#4 Book recommendations: I enjoy authors – James Patterson, John Grisham, David Baldacci, Maureen Dowd, Michael Connelly, Louise Penny, Doris Kearns Goodwin. My all-time favorite book is “Lessons in Chemistry” which I have reread a number of times.

#5 After working at Vacation Village Hotel, I had a job offer from a New York company. After six years working for that company, a client prompted me to go it on my own and I opened Patti Roscoe & Associates. I applied for and received an SBA loan, rented a small office, and never looked back.

#6 We have a very spoiled cat, the fabulous Ms. Molly. She is sixteen years young and thinks she is in charge of both Jim and me – and anyone else who visits our home.

#7 We are fortunate to live in a place as special as San Diego. Those of us who have the wherewithal to help others must do so.

#8 My time is consumed with a number of non-profit organizations, Girl Scouts included. I am a board and committee member at San Diego State and San Diego Rotary Club. I also support the SD Police Foundation and Junior Achievement of San Diego.

#9 For 25 years, Girl Scouts San Diego’s Cool Women Celebration has honored more than 200 exemplary leaders for their positive contributions to the development of girls and women. This year’s 25th anniversary event will shine a spotlight on five remarkable women from diverse fields.

#10 The Cool Women Celebration will also highlight the achievements of Emerging Leader Girl Scouts in grades 10-12 who are committed to developing their leadership skills and making a positive impact in the world. Proceeds from the Cool Women Celebration will support programs that empower Girl Scouts to use their voices, develop a strong sense of self, step outside their comfort zones, and build resilience.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
