10 Things About Matt Teeter and Carlos Sanguinetti & Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego

“If you want love and abundance in your life, give it away”
– Mark Twain,

Founded in 1980, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of San Diego provides a “home-away-from-home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House is a resource for anyone with a child in a local hospital – not just the families staying overnight in its 57 guest suites. Families using its daytime Family Care Center come for meals, naps, showers, and rest before returning to their hospitalized child. All services are free of charge thanks to community support. Matt Teeter and Carlos Sanguinetti are co-founders and co-chairs of Dinner with Friends benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego.

#9 Matt & Carlos got involved with RMHCSD in 2009 after Carlos was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Carlos made a full recovery, but this experience made them consider how they could give back. They started by serving dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Helping families find comfort and support during difficult times is something they are passionate about, and RMHCSD provides an excellent platform for making a difference.

#10 Dinner with Friends supports family lodging and care at San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House to help families focus all their love and attention on helping their child heal, instead of struggling with logistics and unexpected expenses. The money raised, gives families and their seriously ill children time together when it matters most.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
