“Courage doesn’t always roar.
Sometimes courage is the little voice
at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.”
Mary Anne Radmacher
For more than 53 years, the San Diego Crew Classic has been a meaningful part of the San Diego community. At its core, the regatta exists to support athletes of all ages and abilities from around the world, while also providing critical funding for scholarship athletes and partnering nonprofit organizations. In 2025 alone, the Crew Classic was proud to support more than 4,600 athletes. This enduring legacy would not be possible without the generosity and vision of philanthropic partners like the Liz & Michael Copley family, whose continued support has helped ensure the regatta’s ability to thrive, give back, and inspire future generations.

#1 Liz grew up in San Diego and Michael Copley grew up in San Diego and New York City.
#2 Our favorite travel destinations are: Italy, Maui, cultural cities, as well as great surf spots around the world.
#3 Places we would like to travel to: African safari, surfing the Seychelles, UAE, New Zealand and Australia.
#4 We enjoy doing non-profit work, traveling, surfing, biking and playing pickleball.
#5 “Casablanca” is our favorite movie.

#6 We have two dogs: Bo our Rhodesian Ridgeback and Bear our Lab/Malamute.
#7 We like to read John D. MacDonald novels and short stories.
#8 Giving back to our community is important because there are so many needs that are there. Helping others is truly what our lives are about. Of course, we need help in helping others, but when we all pitch-in even just a little, we make someone else’s world just that much better.
#9 Michael’s father was a founder of the San Diego Crew Classic and it is important to us to keep his legacy going, as well as continue to support aspiring young athletes.
#10 Proceeds from the Regatta directly support the participating athletes and extend far beyond the event itself. These funds also sustain two important community regattas: Rowing Cares San Diego, a fundraiser benefiting Southern California cancer survivors and the organizations that support them, and Pride Sprints, which uplifts and empowers LGBTQ youth. Through these efforts, the impact of the San Diego Crew Classic reaches well beyond the finish line, strengthening and supporting diverse communities year-round.
