“Sometimes, I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
– Alice In Wonderland
The Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services to lower income San Diego residents. The firm is funded by the government (City, County, State and Federal), as well as endowments and charities. The services provided are determined by LASSD’s Board of Directors, which is made up of local client eligible persons and local attorneys. Joanna Fox is the Chairperson-elect for Legal Aid Society of San Diego.
10 Things About Joanna Fox & Legal Aid Society of San Diego
#1 I grew up in Upstate New York – a little town called East Greenbush outside of Albany.
#2 Costa Rica is my favorite travel destination. I love the culture, the food, the people, the jungle! If we were to move outside the U.S., this would definitely be the place where our family would land. I have not been to Southeast Asia, and I would love to take a trip there and experience all it has to offer.
#3 To decompress, I like to go for a long walk – being outside always clears my mind and moving my body helps me feel refreshed.
#4 I love doing puzzles, especially the “Impossipuzzle” 1,000-piece ones.
#5 Favorite Movie: This is dark but I absolutely love “Fargo”. I think it is so weird and funny.
#6 My husband, Dave, who also happens to be my law partner, is the most supportive and overall positive person I have ever met.
#7 Book Recommendation: I have recently been reading Tana French – her books “The Searcher” and “The Hunter” have become some of my favorites.
#8 Bucket List: Learn to surf! After two decades living in San Diego, I think it is time.
#9 This community has done so much for me, and I have been so fortunate to live and work here. And that is really the goal for most people – to have a stable, kind, place to live and work – isn’t it? If there is something I can do to pay that forward to others, I plan to do it.
#10 As a junior lawyer, some of my most meaningful matters were those I handled pro bono for indigent clients. So, when Linda Lane (a former LASSD Board Chair and friend) asked if I was interested in helping Legal Aid in some capacity, I jumped at the opportunity. What can possibly be more meaningful than helping someone – a person – when they need it most while at the same time working towards removing systemic barriers to prevent these issues from arising in the first place? These are just a few of the goals of Legal Aid and I am so proud to be a part of this organization.
