“Not all of us can do great things.
But we can do small things with great love.”
– Mother Theresa

#1 Eimaneh Mostofian grew up in Iran until the age of 10 and then emigrated to the US and settled in northern California.

#2 Camping is my favorite place to recharge. I also paint, do fiber arts, and really enjoy baking. My mother makes the best Persian food that has nourished me my whole life and inspires me to put love into my baking.

#3 Favorite Travel Destination: South Africa – because it has an interesting balance between modern Africa and cultural roots.

#6 We have a two-year-old Afghan hound and husky mix named Willow and a fish named Swimmy.

#7 I was an Obstetrician/Gynecologist in the US Navy, rank LCDR, and trained at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. While I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, I was deployed with 1st Med Battalion to Iraq in 2008.

#8 My son Rhys’ impact on my life is that he made me a mom, the greatest title, role, profession I will ever have. Because of him, I get to live my best, my most authentic life. In the words of Khalil Gibran, he is my living arrow.

#9 My father’s view on life was to be of service, and giving of himself to others first. This has been the central ethos of my life.

#10 Funds from the United in Wellness Gala will benefit Project Access San Diego (PASD). PASD provides free specialty care services and surgeries to uninsured adults with income of 139%-322% Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Our 200 physicians, hospitals and surgery centers volunteer their care and services, while our staff help guide the PASD patients through the process.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
