Annie Strazzeri

#1 I grew up here in San Diego. I attended UC High and was one of the first graduating classes of CSU San Marcos.

#2 Spanish was my first language. My mother is Latina, and my dad is from Italy. I have always identified with the Italian side of my family and learned the language in my teen years.

#3 Advice that I would give to my younger self – do not be so fast to react to things that bother me. Oftentimes, things have a way to turn out well in the end.

#4 I do believe that God has a plan for all of us and He spends a lot of time guiding us in that direction – nothing is by accident.

#5 My favorite travel destination has always been our home-away-from-home on the island of Oahu.

#6 My husband Joe recently made my dream of visiting London and Paris come true! In the Fall, Joe and I will go to Italy for a family wedding and then visit Austria for the first time. My favorite movie is “The Sound of Music” and I have wanted to visit the country ever since.

#7 I have lived a blessed life and really have nothing that I wish I had, or that I desire to have some day.

#8 I have always been involved with our kids’ education. I was room mom, Girl Scout troop leader, field trip organizer and gala chair. I was even a soccer coach! So, it seemed normal to want to get involved with OLP.

#9 When we talk about extraordinary OLP students who are the leaders and innovators of tomorrow, we are talking about girls like Daniella. While at OLP, Daniella led the Robotics Club, served as a Peer Tutor, participated in Spring Sing and was a member of the Choral Club, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Speech & Debate Team. Daniella is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico. Daniella is a first-generation college graduate, who received the Harvard Faculty Scholarship for $241,000 and studied neurobiology with an interest in non-profit management, which has been cultivated by her social justice courses and experiences here at OLP.

#10 OLP is committed to intentional work around diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in all areas of the academic curriculum, student clubs, student leadership retreats, investment in professional development and more.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
