The House of Music
Celebrates 2nd Graduating Class at East County Transitional Living Center

The House of Music celebrated their 2nd graduating class at East County Transitional Living Center on July 28th, 2023. The students in the class ranged in ages 6 to 14 years of age and have participated in weekly Saturday classes since September 2022. Each student received an instrument of their choice from percussion instrument manufacturer, Latin Percussion: either LP Congas or LP Bongos – most chose LP Bongos!

The highlight of the 2022-2023 class was performing with legendary percussionist and LP artist John “Dandy” Rodriguez, Jr. who played with his band Tipica 73 at The House of Music’s fundraiser “Festival del Caribe” in May at Liberty Station. One of several acknowledgements came from Mayor Todd Gloria who proclaimed May 28th, 2023 as John “Dandy” Rodriguez, Jr. Day in the City of San Diego for his contributions to Latin music.

Senator Brian Jones also provided Certificates of Recognition to The House of Music for their work with East County Transitional Living Center. The House of Music’s 2023-2024 Latin Percussion music class will expand beyond their current classes at East County Transitional Living Center and Monarch School to now include Ira Harbison Elementary and Kempton Literacy Academy where after school Latin Percussion classes will be provided with the expectation of larger graduating classes in the Spring/Summer of 2024.
