Helping children grow up in safe, loving homes since 1976

Who We Are

Walden Family Services in San Diego is a trusted foster care, adoption, and youth services agency. Founded in 1976, we believe every child deserves a caring home and a bright future. Our work is guided by Henry David Thoreau’s ideas about personal growth, community, and respect for all people.

What We Do

Our team of social workers and licensed therapists helps families across San Diego County care for children and teens. Many of the youth we support have special needs, disabilities, or emotional challenges. Others are part of large sibling groups or identify as LGBTQ.

We prepare and guide foster and adoptive families so that children can live and grow in a home instead of a hospital or group facility. Living with a family helps children feel safe, learn, and build relationships that last a lifetime.

Supporting Every Child and Family

Walden Family Services in San Diego provides care for more than 265 children and youth each year. Our programs give families the tools they need to help kids thrive at home, in school, and in their communities.

By offering therapy, family support, and life-skills training, we help youth build confidence and independence.

Our Mission

We believe that strong families build strong communities. Our mission is to make sure every child—no matter their background or abilities—has the chance to experience love, belonging, and stability.
