The World Comes to Comic-Con Museum

Share

Comic-Con Museum celebrates international collaboration that brings fans from all over the world together to experience the magic of the popular arts.

As an official World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 Community Initiative, Comic-Con Museum partnered with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego to curate Border Blitz: Artistas del Cómic de Tijuana, a binational exhibition sponsored by Cross Border Xpress, featuring the work of three border artists and their diverse stories as expressed through comic art.

In collaboration with Italy’s Contemporanea Progetti, Comic-Con Museum introduced the world premiere exhibition, The Myth of Superheroes: From Antiquity to Contemporary Art. Running through February 2025, this exhibit invites visitors to explore the fascinating connections between the iconic heroes of comics and film and the legendary gods of ancient Greek and Roman mythology. The exhibit is further brought to life at the Education Center with educational programming like pan flute making and chariot racing.

Dazzling and inspiring fans for nearly 100 years, Betty Boop is a global sensation who comes alive at Comic-Con Museum’s original exhibit Becoming Betty Boop. With never-before-seen artifacts dating back to the 1930s, glamorous costumes, and original Betty Boop films playing in the Museum’s theater, this multimedia exhibit, in collaboration with Fleischer Studios, takes visitors on a nostalgic journey from Betty’s beginnings to becoming the first female animated screen star in history.

Since 2023, the Museum has provided nearly 2,000 students from Title I schools with free field trips and popular arts–inspired STEAM education. Next year, the Museum will expand its youth engagement and programming by working with nonprofit groups supporting underserved youth to offer programs that will inspire the next generation of artists, storytellers, creators, and innovators.
