Spreading Holiday Cheer Foundation for Developmental Disabilities’ Season of Sharing

Share

The holiday season is a time meant for family, joy, and togetherness. Yet for many families served by the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), this time of year can bring immense financial stress. The rising cost of utilities and rent often forces difficult choices between paying for basic needs or celebrating the holidays, leaving little room for traditions that should bring comfort and joy.

The Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) created the program to change that reality. Through this campaign, FDD raises funds to provide holiday gift cards to SDRC clients in San Diego and Imperial Counties who are experiencing financial hardship, ensuring that families can celebrate the holidays with joy. For many, these gift cards mean a holiday meal, warm clothing for a child, or the ability to share gifts that make the season memorable.

Meeting a Growing Need

The demand for assistance has grown dramatically. In the past year alone, SDRC welcomed over 4,000 new clients, adding to the thousands of families in need of support. This surge highlights the growing significance of the Season of Sharing program. Each contribution, whether from an individual donor, a family, or a sponsor, has a positive impact on local families, making the holidays brighter and less stressful.

A Celebration with Purpose

The Season of Sharing event returns on November 16th at Stone Brewing in Liberty Station, offering a family-friendly evening where giving back meets holiday fun. This festive gathering welcomes supporters, partners, and the community to come together for crafts, games, holiday shopping, and plenty of cheer for all ages. Families can enjoy quality time while knowing their participation directly supports SDRC families in need.

Season of Sharing tickets include appetizers, drinks, and the chance to connect with others who share a commitment to making the holidays brighter for SDRC families. Proceeds from the event go directly toward purchasing holiday gift cards for these families, ensuring they can celebrate the season with dignity, joy, and togetherness.

Why Sponsorship Matters

Sponsorship opportunities are central to the program’s success. Businesses and organizations that partner with FDD not only help provide holiday relief but also demonstrate their commitment to strengthening the local intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) community in San Diego and Imperial County. Beyond increased visibility, sponsorship represents an investment in inclusion and compassion – values that ripple throughout the community long after the holidays have passed – while ensuring SDRC families can experience joy, connection, and hope during the holiday season.

A Call to Action

FDD invites community members, businesses, and organizations to join in spreading holiday cheer through the Season of Sharing program. Every donation, ticket sale, and sponsorship ensures local families facing financial challenges are not left behind during the holidays. By supporting Season of Sharing, donors affirm their commitment to helping the I/DD community and their families. Together, we can ensure that the true spirit of the holidays reaches every home.
