Proud to Present Farm to Bay

This year marks the 10thanniversary of Farm to Bay, a culinary celebration and fundraiser for the Living Coast Discovery Center, a nonprofit zoo and aquarium on San Diego Bay in Chula Vista. Seven Mile Casino is proud to return as a Presenting Sponsor for the event on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019. Farm to Baybrings together some of San Diego’s finest restaurants, breweries and wineries to support the Living Coast. Featured chefs this year include Matt Gordon (Urban Solace) and Will Gustwiller (Eclipse Chocolate), with dozens more top local restaurants to be announced soon.

Capped at just 450 guests, Farm to Bayoffers a unique, intimate tasting experience, set against the natural beauty of San Diego Bay and uniquely situated within a national wildlife refuge. Up-close animal encounters, live musical entertainment and exciting auctions round out the evening’s fun. During the event, guests are invited to sip, sample and mingle with wildlife as they explore the Living Coast’s indoor and outdoor animal habitats, which include endangered eastern Pacific green sea turtles, sharks, rays, owls, hawks and eagles.

Last year’s event raised $110,000 in net proceeds, making it the Living Coast’s most successful fundraiser to date. The funds, which were generated through a combination of sponsorships, ticket sales, live and silent auctions, and donations, support coastal wildlife conservation, education and sustainability programs at the Living Coast throughout the year. In keeping with the Living Coast’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the Farm to Baycommittee has taken the necessary steps toward producing a Zero-Waste event. In 2018, over 90 percent of event waste was recycled or composted and diverted from landfills.

During this year’s Farm to Bay, guests will also have the opportunity to explore SEA the Change, the Living Coast’s latest seasonal exhibit, which dives into the world of wildlife, highlighting the challenges local species are facing, while imagining a better world where humans and animals live in harmony. Special animal ambassadors, interactive displays and nature-influenced art show how humans can “be the change” through simple choices every day.

“Farm to Bay offers the ideal setting for celebrating the incredible wildlife and precious habitats that surround us here on San Diego Bay,” said Ben Vallejos, executive director of the Living Coast. “We are thankful for the support of community partners like Seven Mile Casino that make this event a success year after year.”
