Share

The San Diego Crew Classic is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, world-class rowing, and unique opportunities for social engagement. Among the many cherished traditions of this iconic event, the Brunch by the Bay stands out as an unparalleled experience, blending luxury, festivity, and front-row seats to the regatta’s thrilling finish line on picturesque Mission Bay.

Brunch by the Bay, set for Sunday, March 30, 2025, offers a gourmet dining experience amid the excitement of the regatta. Held in a tented venue with indoor and outdoor seating, guests enjoy a premium finish-line view, live racing coverage on multiple screens, and a menu featuring a delectable spread, handcrafted espresso, and artisanal cocktails for adults. Athletes in traditional rowing blazers and ladies in elegant hats evoke the sport’s storied heritage. Whether a rowing fan or newcomer, Brunch by the Bay offers a perfect taste of the Crew Classic spirit.

Founded in 1993, Brunch by the Bay celebrates the San Diego Crew Classic’s Stewardship Program and commenced as part of the regatta’s 20th anniversary. Stewards, the backbone of the Crew Classic community, are dedicated supporters and ambassadors of rowing. The brunch offers a chance to connect with and celebrate these advocates, including local philanthropists like the Copley, Considine, Fetters, and Devries families.

The event also features a distinguished lineup of trophy sponsors which symbolize a legacy of dedication, community, and passion for rowing. The San Diego Crew Classic thanks its donors for their steadfast support induing The Jean Jessop Hervey Cup – Sponsored by the Hervey Foundation, whose trophy honors the winners of the Men’s Youth B 8+ category, carrying forward Jean Jessop Hervey’s lasting enthusiasm for life – a spirit which the Crew Classic hopes to instill in all of our participants on and off the water. Another storied trophy is The Rose Cup – Sponsored by the Crew Classic President, Mark Rose, and his wife, Betsey Rose, recognizing the outstanding achievements of the Men’s U16 8+ crews.

The San Diego Crew Classic is more than just a regatta, it is a cornerstone of the rowing community and a cherished San Diego tradition. The event attracts athletes of all levels, from novices experiencing their first spring regatta, to seasoned Olympians. It is a place where rowers grow up, build lifelong friendships, and create unforgettable memories.

One exceptional team of note is The University of Texas women’s rowing team, founded in 1998 after the 1993 Title IX settlement, which has a decorated history with multiple Big 12 titles and three NCAA championships (2021, 2022, 2024). In 2024, Texas became the third program to win three NCAA titles in four years.

In addition, The Crew Classic introduces high school athletes to competitive rowing, offers collegiate teams a chance to assess national competition, and welcomes alumni to reconnect and race.
