Mission Fed Credit Union has been an engaged community partner for over 60 years, and its core mission has remained the same: Earning trust, investing in its members’ success, and caring for the community. The credit union is driving positive social impact throughout San Diego, and 2022 marked an incredible year of these efforts.
Mission Fed became the first credit union in San Diego County to receive the Juntos Avanzamos “Together We Advance” designation, a distinction that acknowledges its on-going commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic consumers. Juntos Avanzamos is a financial inclusion initiative managed by Inclusiv, an organization dedicated to helping low- and moderate-income communities reach financial security through credit unions. Mission Fed is proud to help its members ‘move forward together’ with financial empowerment tools that improve their lives.
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter, Mission Fed recognized June as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. On behalf of its members, employees and volunteer board of directors, Mission Fed donated $10,000 and assisted with in-kind media awareness efforts to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise another $15,000.
Mission Fed was proud to join the community and serve as Diamond Sponsor of this year’s San Diego Pride 5K Run & Walk! The event raised a record-breaking $40,000. The funds benefitted charity partners – San Diego Pride and The LGBT Center’s Youth Housing Project.
As food insufficiency remains a key issue in the county, Mission Fed supported The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank Food 4 Kids Backpack Program in the fight against child hunger. In partnership with its branches and the communities they serve, Mission Fed’s fundraising efforts totaled over $81,000 – equal to 11,500 additional backpacks full of food to feed a child all weekend long.
Mission Fed’s growth included opening a new branch in Chula Vista – the credit union’s 35th location. Mission Fed celebrated by donating to SBCS’ Chula Vista Promise Neighborhood program which provides a wide range of help to children, youth and families in the community including academic help from preschool through college, mental health education and food assistance.
Mission Fed is also proud of its “Holiday Happenings,” supporting Father Joe’s Villages, La Maestra Community Health Centers and the San Diego Center for Children.
Last month, Mission Fed supported Father Joe’s Villages during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, contributing $25,000 to the campaign as a matching donation. Mission Fed simultaneously ran a toy and gift drive benefiting La Maestra Community Health Centers and its families to make holidays brighter for children and families in need.
Mission Fed staff ends the year with its treasured annual Tree Decorating volunteer event at the San Diego Center for Children. Ten staff teams bring joy to the Center’s children by decorating Christmas trees for the Center.
