When Erica welcomed her newborn last December, she was not sure how she would make the holidays special. Between sleepless nights, bills, and baby essentials, there was little room in her budget for gifts. Then, through Lifeline Community Services’ Adopt-a-Family Program, a generous donor stepped in. Wrapped presents and home necessities arrived just in time for Christmas.

“I know no one was obligated to do this for us,” Erica shared, “but I’m so glad they chose this program to help make our Christmas extra happy and special.”

Stories like Erica’s capture the heart of Lifeline Community Services (Lifeline) San Diego. For more than 50 years, Lifeline has walked alongside youth and adults navigating life’s most complex challenges, offering support grounded in trust, dignity, and culturally responsive care. Each year, Lifeline serves more than 25,000 individuals across San Diego County, with a strong presence in the North County region where it was founded and remains firmly grounded. The organization’s programs sit at the intersection of behavioral health and economic empowerment, helping people strengthen their mental health, secure housing, gain employment, and move toward a future filled with possibility. Lifeline believes everyone deserves a path forward, no matter where they start.

Each year, Lifeline invites the community to help make the holidays brighter for families through its Adopt-a-Family program. This cherished tradition supports hardworking households, experiencing hardship by matching them with donors who help fulfill their holiday wishlists.

For many of Lifeline’s clients, the holidays come with added pressure. Despite their dedication and progress, the season can bring financial stress that limits their ability to celebrate. Adopt-a-Family gives the broader community a chance to step in and show support in a meaningful, personal way. Donors are matched with families based on size and need. Once matched, participants may choose how they want to give. Some shop for gifts from a curated wishlist. Others donate gift cards for groceries or holiday shopping. Many opt to contribute online, allowing Lifeline to purchase what is most needed. All gifts are delivered to Lifeline’s offices and distributed in time for the holidays.

The final gift distribution day for 2025 will be Saturday, December 13. Donations must be new. Every contribution helps create a joyful experience for families.

In past years, Adopt-a-Family has reached hundreds of children and adults throughout San Diego County. The ripple effect is powerful: families feel seen and supported, donors experience the joy of giving, and communities grow stronger through shared compassion.

Whether you choose to adopt a family, make a donation, or spread the word, your support helps Lifeline continue its mission – walking beside youth, adults, and families as they heal, grow, and thrive.
