Lenny Leszczynski Announces San Diego Automotive Museum Expansion

Share

Dear Friends,

The San Diego Automotive Museum saw significant growth throughout the year, and it is all
thanks to the kindness and support of the San Diego Car Community.

Thanks to a generous gift from The Berg Family Trust, November will begin the Berg Family Automotive Library renovation with the help of Barnhart-Reese Construction. Our library contains the most extensive collection of automotive publications on the west coast, and the improvements create accessibility for all who wish to explore. This renovation complements the new event space behind the Museum that gazes upon the historical Cabrillo Bridge. Completed by Aardema Electric and Construction Corporation, the space hosts parties and weddings, in addition to receptions inside the Museum.

In early 2022, the Museum officially launched the Vocational Education Academy – a multifaceted, participatory learning experience through hands-on automotive restoration and repair activities and lectures on building practical life skills and career exploration. The Academy breaks education barriers for youth living below the poverty line to nurture those who desire to explore the vast automotive industry. Youth engage with mentors, learn budgeting skills, and team-building activities, giving them a place to belong. No other program in San Diego County encompasses job training, mentorship and fiscal knowledge, all at no cost to the student.

With renovations inside and outside, we are ready to focus on the 87-year-old building by launching the Capital Campaign to expand the Museum into a 56,000 square foot facility. This
expansion offers naming opportunities inside the Museum and a rare opportunity to rename the
San Diego Automotive Museum itself! These naming opportunities will produce a world-class museum in San Diego and help sustain the Museum and the art of the automobile for generations to come.

During this Holiday Season, please consider supporting the expansion and education endeavors of the San Diego Automotive Museum. I ask you to consider a donation toward the Academy, an estate gift, or support for the Capital Campaign. Help us toward our vision of transforming into a world-class Museum for all generations while teaching and preserving the art of the automobile industry. To inquire about naming opportunities in the Capital Campaign, contact Sharon Smith at (619) 987-8020.

Happy Holidays,

Lenny Leszczynski
