Share

On October 10, 2024, KIPP SoCal Public Schools celebrated its 20th Anniversary Gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, commemorating two decades of educational excellence and community impact. The event honored philanthropists Martha and Bruce Karsh for their unwavering commitment of advancing educational equity in Southern California.

The evening began with a vibrant reception featuring performances by KIPP Scholar Academy Band Director Anthony Harvey and interactive moments with alumni. Guests connected with former students, sharing stories that highlighted KIPP SoCal’s transformative role in education since 2003.

The celebration continued with dinner and an awards presentation co-hosted by Eric Desobe, KIPP SoCal’s Director of Talent Acquisition, and Elektra Skannal, a 7th grader from KIPP Philosophers Academy. They guided the audience through KIPP SoCal’s journey from three middle schools to a network of 20 high-performing schools serving over 10,000 students, including San Diego.

CEO Angella Martinez and Board Chair Luis Rodriguez delivered speeches emphasizing the organization’s commitment to educational equity. A special mariachi performance by KIPP Sol Academy added a cultural highlight to the evening. Attendees were moved by a video featuring alumna Emily Amador, who shared her gratitude for KIPP Forward, the program that supports students through high school, college, and career success.
