John Valencia Leading Sustainable Nonprofit Growth

Designing the Future of Good

For John Valencia, service has never been about a single program, title, or moment. It has always been about building systems that allow good work to last. As the founder of Good For Others Foundation (GFOF), Valencia has spent his career strengthening the nonprofit sector from the inside out, helping organizations not only survive, but scale with integrity, sustainability, and impact.

Over the course of his professional life, Valencia has helped raise and steward more than $1 billion for nonprofit organizations nationwide. Rather than viewing fundraising as a goal in itself, he approaches it as a tool for long-term stability. His work has supported organizations across education, healthcare, housing, and human services, ensuring they have the infrastructure needed to serve communities well beyond a single grant cycle or campaign.

That philosophy became the foundation for Good For Others Foundation. GFOF operates nationally, partnering with nonprofits, public agencies, and philanthropic leaders to address one of the sector’s most persistent challenges: sustainability. The organization focuses on strategic planning, fundraising systems, leadership development, and operational design, all with the belief that strong missions require equally strong structures behind them.

What distinguishes GFOF is its emphasis on innovation. Valencia recognized early on that nonprofits are often expected to solve complex social problems while operating with outdated tools and limited support. In response, GFOF has invested in forward-thinking solutions designed to modernize the sector. One such initiative is the Good For Others Nonprofit Hub App, a centralized digital platform that connects organizations to resources, expertise, and tools that traditionally lived in silos. The app is designed to reduce friction, increase collaboration, and give nonprofit leaders real-time access to support that helps them focus on mission rather than administration.

GFOF is also advancing work in areas often overlooked in the nonprofit world, employee healthcare and retirement planning. Valencia believes that caring for the people doing the work is inseparable from caring for the communities being served. By exploring scalable healthcare and retirement solutions for nonprofit employees, GFOF is helping organizations better support their teams, reduce burnout, and build more resilient workforces.

At its core, the Foundation’s work reflects Valencia’s belief that generosity should be strategic, and that impact grows when organizations are equipped, not just inspired. His leadership style is collaborative and grounded, shaped by decades of experience alongside nonprofit executives, board members, donors, and community leaders across the country.

While based here in San Diego, Valencia’s reach and influence extend nationwide. Through Good For Others Foundation, he continues to help organizations think bigger, operate smarter, and build models that endure. In doing so, he is quietly reshaping what it means to give back, not just by supporting causes, but by strengthening the very systems that allow good to flourish.
