John Gomez: Top Latino Trial Lawyer and Community Leader

Share

John Gomez is arguably the premiere Latino trial attorney in the United States.  Since 2000, he has exclusively represented people and businesses harmed by the wrongful conduct of others.  In the last nine years, he has recovered over 150 million dollars in settlements and verdicts for his clients, with more than 25 awards exceeding one million dollars each.  This year alone, he has obtained jury verdicts in excess of one million dollars in three separate cases.

John grew up in San Diego and attended the University of San Diego, where he was an Academic All-American football player.  He then headed east for his legal training at the nation’s top-ranked law school, Yale University.  He returned to San Diego to accept a position as a federal prosecutor, trying criminal cases for the United States Department of Justice.

While tremendously successful as a prosecutor, John realized that what he really wanted to do was help ordinary people that had suffered harm.  He formed his own law firm, the Gomez Law Firm, in 2005 for that very reason.  The firm now features six attorneys and represents only plaintiffs in serious injury, wrongful death, elder abuse, employment, insurance and business cases.

In 2006, John was named the San Diego “Trial Lawyer of the Year,” the highest award a San Diego trial attorney can receive.  He has been named a Top 10 San Diego attorney every year since 2005, a “Super Lawyer” and one of the “Best Lawyers in America.”  John attributes his success to hard work and caring more than the other side.  “I really do give everything I have to every one of my clients,” he tells Gente Bien.  “Many of my clients are in very difficult situations and they count on me to help them.  There is no way I’m going to let them down.”  A fluent Spanish speaker, John particularly enjoys representing fellow Latinos.  He states, “We provide the very highest level of representation, but also an understanding of the Spanish language and Latino culture that no comparable firm can match.”

John is not only a leader in the courtroom, but in the community as well.  He is the President of the Board of Directors of “La Cuna”, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the placement of Latino foster children in permanent and loving homes.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, and the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program.

John’s wife, Lisa, is a Director at Sempra Energy.  Together, they live in Carmel Valley with their three children, John Jr., Michael and Analise.
