John Gomez is a nationally recognized trial attorney. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of San Diego, he went on to graduate from Yale Law School. From there, stints at Latham & Watkins and the United States Attorneys Office led him back to his true passion: helping others. Today, Gomez is the President and Founder of the Gomez Law Firm, dedicated exclusively to representing individuals that have suffered catastrophic personal harm. His trial record is unmatched. Since 2000, Gomez has collected over $200 million in verdicts and settlements with more than 30 awards in excess of $1 million each.
In perhaps the most high profile case of his career, he now represents the surviving family members of CHP Officer Mark Saylor and his family. Officer Saylor and 3 others lost their lives when their loaner Lexus accelerated out of control in Santee, California. That single event prompted Congressional hearings and the largest recall in Toyota history. Gomez has now settled the family’s claims against Toyota but is continuing litigation against the dealer that loaned the family the vehicle.
John Gomez has been designated Top 50 Super Lawyer in San Diego, as well as Best Lawyer in the areas of personal injury and product litigation. He is a five-time recipient of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego Outstanding Trial Attorney recognition, in addition to 2006 Trial Lawyer of the Year.
Despite that success, Gomez has not forgotten his roots. Until recently, Gomez was the Chairman of the Board of “La Cuna,” a non-profit organization dedicated to placing Latino foster children in permanent and loving homes. He now sits on the Board of the San Diego County Bar, the Board of the Chicano Federation and last year, endowed the La Raza Lawyers of San Diego Scholarship fund and the Community Youth Athletic Center.
Whether he is fighting in court, or making a difference in his community, John Gomez is sure to be a force for years to come.
