Changing Lives For Those With Epilepsy
One in ten people will experience a seizure in their lifetime and another one in twenty-six will be diagnosed with epilepsy.
The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County (EFSDC) leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures and save lives. EFSDC provides all programs and services free of charge, including counseling, career development, advocacy information and referrals, as well as support groups for individuals, caregivers and families, college scholarships and summer camps for children and teens.
Save the date of Wednesday, December 6, 2023 for the 30th Anniversary Gingerbread City Gala at the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park to support their mission and work in the community. This festive kick-off to the holiday season features a nationally recognized gingerbread competition from culinary artists and enthusiasts (and a school category), live and silent auctions and interactive museum exhibits, in addition to a dinner program.
This highly anticipated event brings together the area’s most influential community advocates, leaders, medical experts and philanthropists to generate critical funding needed to provide their programs and services throughout San Diego County.
The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County is pleased to announce its keynote speaker and special guest that evening, filmmaker Miles Levin, the writer and director of “Under the Lights.” The short film follows the story of a young man so desperate to feel like a normal teenager for a night that he attends his high school prom knowing that the lights will likely cause a seizure.
“Cinema has historically stigmatized and ignored people with epilepsy. A demographic of 1 in 26 who have almost never been represented authentically on screen and often suffer from brutal stigma every day,” shares Miles Levin, a filmmaker who himself lives with epilepsy.
Join us December 6, 2023 to help raise awareness and fund programming and resources for the more than 50,000 San Diegans living with epilepsy.
