THE RACES

Races featured in Formula One Stories highlight moments when conditions, strategy, and decision-making shaped outcomes and defined eras of Formula One competition.

1971 Italian Grand Prix
At Monza, the top five drivers repeatedly swapped the lead and finished separated by just 0.61 seconds, making it one of the closest races in Formula One history.

1993 European Grand Prix
In damp conditions at Donington Park, Ayrton Senna passed four drivers on the opening lap to take the lead, a first lap that is considered to be one of the best in Formula One history.

2008 Brazilian Grand PrixWith 17 seconds remaining, Lewis Hamilton passed Timo Glock to finish fifth and secure the points needed to win the Drivers’ Championship.

Formula One Stories uses these races to show how strategy, conditions, and on-track decisions that defined Formula One history.

IGNITE Academy

At the San Diego Automotive Museum, IGNITE Academy extends the museum’s educational mission beyond the gallery, providing young people with hands-on experience, mentorship, and pathways into automotive careers.

Our latest success story is Grant Townsend, who began as a part-time technician with an IGNITE partner while pursuing an Automotive Technology degree. Reflecting on his experience, Grant shared:

“IGNITE has impacted me in more ways than I thought possible. It got me my first job in the industry I’ve dreamed of, led to new connections, and completely changed the course of my life.”

Grant represents the next generation of skilled technicians inspired by the Museum’s commitment to education and opportunity.

At the San Diego Automotive Museum, Formula One Stories and IGNITE Academy connect automotive history with education and future opportunity.
