Encountering Excellence at OLP

Share

Back in 2018, Dr. Lauren Lek, Head of School for the Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) was a featured contributor for the Times of San Diego. The article focus was, “Classrooms of the Future.” Of course, this piece was prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, yet the foretelling by Dr. Lek from that article gives one pause as the relevance resounds in its applicability four years later, “Today, education is as challenged as it has ever been to prepare students for a rapidly changing, globally competitive world. The jobs of the future are shifting at the same rate of change as all other things, and the speed of change only seems to be increasing.” Referring back of course illuminates the dynamic and visionary leadership of Dr. Lek’s headship, while also shining a light into the level of excellence infused into planning and processing of all areas of academia for this oldest (and only) comprehensive all girls’ high school in San Diego.

The graduating class of 2022 embody the call to excellence as their fine-tuned individual and collective accolades speak volumes of the investment each student receives during their four-year academic journey at OLP. At OLP the intentionality of their commitment to excellence is intricately connected to the holistic support of each girl. Nothing demonstrates this more than this class of 2022 having received over 1,100 offers of admission to college with 80% of students receiving merit-based scholarships at a collective total greater than $25.1 Million. This phenomenal group of girls has seen 40% of their peers pursuing STEM majors and 19% first-generation to attend college.

Excellence, by no means, is a striving toward perfectionism. The OLP community empowers curious learning and provides each student opportunities to achieve, grow and rise to unexpected heights.
