The Cal Coast Cares Foundation’s impact on the local education community continues to grow, with the recent announcement of more than $40,000 in grants awarded to local teachers, and over $90,000 in scholarships to local students, including a special program for foster students. In total, the Cal Coast Cares Foundation has awarded more than $550,000 in grants and scholarships since it was established in 2015.

“Cal Coast understands that additional funding can make an impact for educators who are working on creative and innovative ways to enrich classroom learning and engagement. The goal of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation is to widen the path to academic success through meaningful educator grants and student scholarships,” Todd Lane, president and CEO of Cal Coast Credit Union and board member of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation Board shared with GB Magazine.

Beth Duncan, teacher at Rancho Minerva Middle School in Vista, shared, “The educator grant will allow us to purchase cutting-edge technology that will help my students produce and compete in local, state, and national film competitions. Thanks to the Cal Coast Cares Foundation, our video production program will have a new camera and lens for our young filmmakers.”

Educators in K-12 public, private or charter schools, community and state colleges/universities in San Diego or Riverside counties have the opportunity to submit a grant application detailing the ways they will utilize the funds to enhance learning and support accessibility of materials to students within their classroom. Educators awarded the latest round of grants plan to use them for resources such as audio-visual equipment, robotics projects, books, and specialized art supplies.

The Foundation’s scholarships are open to current college students, graduating high school seniors, and foster students throughout San Diego and Riverside counties to pursue their dreams of higher education. The 501 (C)(3) foundation raises funds for the scholarships and grants from individual and corporate donations, plus two signature fundraisers – a popular annual golf tournament in August and an evening reception called Illuminate Pathways.

Nickie Behdin, Foundation and School Partnerships Manager with Cal Coast Credit Union and a Foundation Board member added: “The Cal Coast Cares Foundation’s mission is to support an environment of enriched learning and academic success by funding student scholarships and educator grants. We are grateful to our members, sponsors, and donors that have helped us create a brighter future for so many.”
