Cal Coast Cares Foundation 10 Year Anniversary Celebrating 10 Years of Supporting Education

Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” By that measure, the Cal Coast Cares Foundation has issued a LOT of passports!

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, the foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in grants to local educators and scholarships to college students, college-bound high school seniors, and current or former foster youth. This includes over $965,000 in college scholarships, $293,000 in foster youth scholarships, and $373,000 in educator grants.

Todd Lane is the President & CEO of California Coast Credit Union and co-founder of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation. “Year after year we are inspired by, and proud to support, local students who are pursuing their dreams of higher education, and local teachers who are developing projects to enrich classroom engagement and creative learning. We are grateful for every donor and supporter in the community who has made it possible for the foundation to have a positive impact on so many lives.”

Over the years, educators have used grants to support innovative classroom projects related to STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math) such as robotics, drone technology, Eco Art, smart farming, underwater remote vehicles, reading supplies, and much more.

One local educator who received a foundation grant for his students is Rodger Dohm, who teaches at Poway High School. “I am so grateful for the support of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation. They provided us with the parts necessary to build and compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The foundation not only provided access to this opportunity but also provided inspirational and motivational learning!”

Students have used their scholarships to help them pursue their educational goals at local community colleges and four-year colleges and universities within, and outside, of California.

Breanna De La Cruz is a San Marcos High School graduate and 2024 scholarship recipient who now attends the University of Southern California. “Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous honor that motivates me to pursue my academic and career goals. This scholarship not only validates my hard work but motivates me to want to give back to any community I am part of and to thrive in my studies. Thank you, Cal Coast Cares Foundation, for believing in my academic abilities and investing in my future.”

The foundation hosts an annual golf tournament as its signature fundraiser, but also relies on individuals, families, and corporate supporters to help provide scholarships and grants. This year, the charity golf tournament will be held on August 18th at the exclusive Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. Corporate sponsors include MasterCard, Experian, United Healthcare, New Cars Inc., HUB International, and many others.
