One of the founding pillars of the Catholic Community Foundation of San Diego is built on the importance of supporting K-12 education.
Special funds designated for Catholic education make opportunities possible for young Catholic students to be able to attend private schools through tuition assistance programs, or funds to support the schools’ ability to attract and retain outstanding school administrators and classroom leaders to teach San Diego’s youth. Catholic education provides a nurturing environment for children to grow in their spiritual life, while also attaining the comprehensive knowledge and skills needed to help them develop into responsible global citizens.
The Catholic Community Foundation works closely with many of the Catholic K-12 schools in San Diego and Imperial counties and is honored with the opportunity to partner with the newest of the Catholic preparatory high schools, Cristo Rey San Diego High School (CRSD) of Southcrest. CRSD serves families of limited economic means by offering high school students a unique opportunity to attend a private, college preparatory high school at an affordable price. All students participate in the school’s corporate work-study program, in which they work five days per month at local companies and nonprofits. In their job assignments, students gain relevant, professional work experience, and their earnings go directly to the school to help offset educational costs.
Cristo Rey is helping to end the cycle of poverty and working to remove systemic barriers to those facing economic disadvantages, while providing an affordable, college-preparatory education to San Diego students. The school’s success depends on the generosity and support of the San Diego community.
In honor of the high school’s founding President and Board Chair, a $100,000 fundraising match is being offered to benefit the school’s top financial priorities as they grow to a full-size high school. The establishment of this new CRSD Founders Leadership Fund at the Catholic Community Foundation, along with the $100K match intends to help provide an incentive for new interested donors, in which any new contribution amount will be matched for the benefit of Cristo Rey. In addition to any new contributions from first-time donors, an increase in previously donated contributions from existing supporters will also be matched up to $100,000.
Cristo Rey partners with educators, businesses and communities to empower students to fulfill their aspirations for a lifetime of success.
