It Takes A Family
Selling from The Coast to The Ranch since 1985

The Appleby family arrived in La Jolla in the early 1970s and soon after Mary Appleby, Scott and Kerry’s mother, became involved in a multitude of San Diego’s charitable and educational organizations: Junior League, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, ARK and Old Globe Theatre. Their father, Addison, served on the San Diego Tennis Patrons Board and on the Bishop’s School Board of Trustees. The children learned at a young age the importance of supporting the community through volunteerism, education, sports and the arts.

The Appleby family treasures what San Diego offers both residents and visitors from Padre games to Little Italy restaurants to San Diego’s gorgeous beaches to the Cedros Design District and more. In 2005, the Appleby/Payne family spearheaded the fundraising of a tennis center for Cathedral Catholic High School. A good friend of Kerry’s, Jane Johnson was dying of ALS, so Jane’s husband, friends, fellow tennis players and future CCHS families donated enough within 6 weeks to break ground for the tennis center. This was a wonderful example of how San Diegans came together to honor an exceptional woman who was a strong supporter of childhood literacy programs, a competitive National tennis player and a woman of faith.

Grateful for multiple decades of business success, the Applebys are happy to carry on their family tradition of volunteerism and charitable giving. “It is a gift to be able to support a variety of San Diego organizations for which we feel a great deal of compassion,” shared Kerry. They currently support the Helen Woodward Animal Center, Just In Time for Foster Youth, The Salvation Army, Barnes Family Tennis Center, RSF Library Guild, Tee’d Off at Cancer for Scripps, Challenged Athletes Foundation, Rady Shell, North Coast Rep Theatre, Junior League of SD and Father Joe’s Villages. Most importantly, the Applebys are most proud to be in partnership with Giving Back Magazine and wish to toast Esteban and Danitza on providing such a fabulous platform for San Diego to promote and thank our city’s extraordinary charitable organizations and tireless volunteers!

Scott Appleby and Kerry Appleby Payne, a dynamic brother-sister duo, were raised in La Jolla and finally settled in Rancho Santa Fe with their families. The experienced team specializes in San Diego luxury real estate and Mary Appleby, Scott and Kerry’s mother, founded the family business in 1985 thus, the motto of “It Takes A Family.” Kerry is quick to praise Mary on how she set an excellent example of treating her clients like family and providing “hands-on service.”

Leaders in the high-end luxury market, Scott and Kerry take great pride in their creative marketing, strong negotiating skills and extensive market knowledge. Through the years they have worked with multiple generations of many families and are often designated by trustees, clients and friends to sell family properties. Most recently, the team welcomed a new partner in Scott’s son, Andrew, who graduated from Santa Fe Christian and then SMU in Dallas, Texas. Following a stint in Dallas commercial real estate, Andrew returned home to San Diego with his high school sweetheart to whom he got married a year ago. The Applebys are affiliated with locally owned Willis Allen Real Estate, which celebrates 108 years of real estate excellence in San Diego. Building long term relationships with their clients is the Appleby desire and selling real estate in America’s Finest City is their passion!
