A December Deadline Reminder

Share

As we approach December, seniors face a crucial decision regarding their Medicare Advantage plans. The recent announcement by Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal facilities not to accept Medicare Advantage starting January 1st has left many in a state of confusion. In a recent interview, Pat Salas, President of SBHIS Insurance Services shed light on the misinformation circulating and provided valuable insights for those affected.

Pat revealed that seniors have until December 7th to choose a plan. Options include leaving the Scripps system, finding a new doctor and specialist, or exploring Medicare supplement plans for continued access to Scripps facilities.

For those considering Medicare supplements, Blue Shield of California is offering an underwriting holiday, allowing individuals under cancer or other preexisting conditions undergoing treatment to remain enrolled. Pat also outlined alternatives, such as choosing Medicare Advantage plans, which may save money but require changing providers.
Concerns were raised about the repercussions of missing the December deadline. Failure to act could result in receiving a new ID card with randomly assigned doctors, potentially disrupting access to accustomed healthcare services. Despite a widespread publicity campaign, a significant number of seniors remain unaware of these changes, underlining the urgency of spreading accurate information.

To assist seniors in making informed decisions, permanent assistance locations have been established at the Ximed Building in La Jolla and Palomar offices in North County. Pat advised readers to consult reliable sources, stressing the importance of seeking guidance from Medicare experts rather than relying on non-specialized sources like car insurance agents!

As we navigate these changes, it is crucial for seniors to act before the deadline, ensuring seamless healthcare transitions and continued access to the services they need. Be sure to reach out to experts and make informed decisions for a smoother healthcare journey in the coming year.
