For more than five decades, Chicano Federation of San Diego County has worked to improve the lives of children, families, and individuals throughout the region. Since its founding in 1969, the nonprofit organization has connected communities with resources that promote education, health, housing, nutrition, workforce development, and economic opportunity.

Driven by its mission to cultivate opportunities and advocate for families and individuals for a more equitable comunidad, Chicano Federation partners with community members, public agencies, businesses, volunteers, and donors to create programs that address the everyday needs of San Diegans. Today, the organization serves more than 50,000 people annually, helping families build stronger futures through comprehensive support services.

A Legacy of Community Service

Founded in 1969, Chicano Federation was established to address barriers that limited opportunities for underserved communities throughout San Diego County. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services while remaining committed to its original purpose—creating pathways that help individuals and families thrive.

Its work is built on the belief that access to education, nutritious food, stable housing, and economic opportunity creates healthier communities. By working closely with local partners and responding to changing community needs, Chicano Federation continues to provide programs that make a lasting impact across the region.

Today, the organization is recognized as one of San Diego’s longstanding nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening families through direct services, advocacy, and community collaboration.

Mission and Vision

Chicano Federation’s mission is simple but impactful:

To cultivate opportunities and advocate for families and individuals for a more equitable comunidad.

This mission guides every program the organization delivers. Whether supporting young children, assisting families in finding housing, improving access to nutritious meals, or helping individuals develop career skills, the goal remains the same—creating opportunities that improve quality of life.

The organization approaches its work with responsibility, professionalism, integrity, and a deep commitment to the communities it serves.

Programs That Support Every Stage of Life

One of Chicano Federation’s greatest strengths is its broad range of services. Rather than focusing on a single issue, the organization addresses multiple challenges that affect families and communities.

Child Development Programs

Early childhood is one of the most important stages of development, and Chicano Federation invests in helping children build a strong foundation for future success.

Its child development programs provide safe, nurturing environments where children can learn, grow, and prepare for school while families receive valuable support.

Programs include:

  • Home Based Program
  • Infant and Toddler Program
  • Barrio Logan Child Development Center

These services encourage healthy development, early learning, and family engagement during a child’s formative years.

Child Nutrition Program

Access to healthy meals is essential for children’s growth and academic success.

Through its Child Nutrition Program, Chicano Federation helps ensure that children receive nutritious meals that support their physical health, cognitive development, and overall well-being. By improving food access, the program contributes to healthier families and stronger communities.

Housing Program

Safe and affordable housing is the foundation for long-term stability.

Chicano Federation’s Housing Program helps individuals and families access housing resources and supportive services that promote secure living environments. Stable housing allows families to focus on education, employment, and overall well-being while reducing the stress caused by housing insecurity.

Workforce & Business Development Program

Economic opportunity plays an important role in strengthening communities.

Through workforce and business development initiatives, Chicano Federation helps individuals develop employment skills, explore career opportunities, and access resources that support professional growth. The organization also supports providers and businesses that contribute to thriving local neighborhoods and stronger local economies.

Community Advocacy

In addition to direct services, Chicano Federation advocates for policies and initiatives that improve the lives of families throughout San Diego County.

By collaborating with community organizations, public agencies, and local leaders, the organization works to expand access to resources and create more equitable opportunities for underserved communities.

Its advocacy efforts help connect residents with programs while strengthening the partnerships needed to create lasting change.

2025 Community Impact

Chicano Federation’s commitment to serving San Diego is reflected in its 2025 Impact Report, which highlights the reach of its programs throughout the community.

During 2025, the organization achieved significant milestones, including:

  • Serving more than 10,000 children across its programs.
  • Reaching 20,000 people through advocacy and community outreach.
  • Providing 3.1 million nutritious meals for children.
  • Inspiring 12,021 volunteer hours from dedicated community members.

These achievements demonstrate the collective impact made possible through staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters working together to strengthen San Diego families.

More Than Numbers

Behind every statistic is a family whose life has been improved through the organization’s programs.

The children receiving quality early education today become students better prepared for school tomorrow. Families who gain access to stable housing can focus on building secure futures. Individuals who receive workforce support are better positioned to achieve financial stability, while nutritious meals help children grow and learn.

The organization’s annual impact report reflects these stories of resilience, opportunity, and community support.

Volunteers and Community Partners

Chicano Federation’s success depends on the dedication of volunteers, donors, businesses, foundations, and community organizations that share its vision.

Thousands of volunteer hours each year help expand the organization’s reach, while financial contributions and partnerships make it possible to continue investing in programs that benefit children, families, and neighborhoods throughout San Diego County.

This collaborative approach allows Chicano Federation to respond to evolving community needs while maintaining a lasting impact.

Ways to Support Chicano Federation

Community members who want to support Chicano Federation can contribute in several meaningful ways.

Support opportunities include:

  • Making charitable donations.

Every contribution helps expand access to programs that create opportunities for thousands of San Diegans each year.

By investing in early childhood education, nutrition, housing, workforce development, and advocacy, the organization continues to create opportunities that empower individuals and strengthen families.
