“I love you”
– a perfect quote in any language

The goal of the Police Foundation is simple, yet essential: to create a safer San Diego. That means safety for all who live, work, and play in San Diego. Supported by community contributions since its founding in 1998, the Police Foundation funds equipment, training, and outreach programs vital to creating safer communities. For the past 22 years, every police service dog at the San Diego Police Department has been purchased with funds donated through the Police Foundation. These specialized canines safeguard public events, find missing persons, locate evidence, de-escalate dangerous situations, prevent shootings, and preserve life. Vicki and Chris Eddy are the Honorary Chairs of the Foundation’s Annual Soiree.

#1 Chris Eddy is a 4th generation San Diegan and Vicki is a southern belle from Shreveport, Louisiana.

#2 Chris has endless nature hobbies and is a master genealogist. Vicki’s 4th great-grandfather, Benjamin Harrison, was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence and fun fact – she was born on the 4th of July!

#3 Our grandson Jackson Eddy, at 29 months-old is already master of the universe.

#4 We have dreams for big travel but always seem to land in Hawaiian paradise or a special US destination.

#5 Places we would like to visit: Ireland, Scotland and Portugal would be tops.

#6 We both have photographic memories, especially Chris, who has a super ability of recognizing faces from anywhere and anytime.

#7 Dixey and Bailey are our adorable senior ladies – we call the breed “malt-shitz” – a mix of Maltese/shih tzu.

#8 Giving perpetuates giving. Be even a small spark for something that moves you for huge returns.

#9 Friends invited us to a San Diego Police Foundation event supporting the K9 unit. We met such impressive Officers with their K9 partners, along with staff and supporters, including then-Chief Shelley Zimmerman and Sara Napoli, the San Diego Police Foundation’s CEO. That evening, we were the successful bidder for an amazing opportunity to spend a full day of immersion into the world of the SDPD. We toured the Crime Lab, K9 Training Center, 911 Emergency Dispatch quarters and ended up high in the sky with a thrilling 2-hour police helicopter ride-along soaring over the city and even answering calls for assistance from ground patrol. Now, a decade later, we feel like family and deeply appreciate every moment of safety, protection and peace that we receive from our brave SDPD Officers.

#10 “The Cop Hop” attendees will have the opportunity to dedicate their donations to the K9 Crimefighter Campaign to fund new police service dogs.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
