#6 I support Mainly Mozart because it is classical music yet on a smaller scale. For over 30 years, the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra has been home to elite Concertmasters and Principal Players in the United States. The famed Mainly Mozart Festival boasts top level players from the world’s greatest orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic and dozens more.

#7 Each year, the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra performs concerts at retirement homes and hospitals, sharing the joy of music and offering valuable performance opportunities and life lessons to our students.

#8 Students and families of need can enjoy the glory of live music through Mainly Mozart’s Access Amadeus Program. Over 1500 tickets are donated each year to families who otherwise would not have access to great classical music performances.

#9 Mainly Mozart recognizes the racial inequities in our Society in all its forms and the disparities it causes to our nation as a whole. We support the dismantling of systemic racism in all forms – political, social, and economic. Mainly Mozart is committed to lifting racial equity in all areas of the organization.

#10 For more than twenty-five years, Mainly Mozart has taken its programs south of the border as “Mozart Binacional.” Mainly Mozart has sponsored music camps and master classes for Mexican student musicians, art competitions for youth, and in-school music assemblies for thousands of children. Mainly Mozart maintains a close partnership with the Centro de Artes Musicales, Tijuana’s music conservatory, performing together as the Youth Orchestra of the Californias, fostering international goodwill and understanding on both sides of the border.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
