“Argue for your limitations and, sure enough, they’re yours.”
– Richard Bach

Mission Federal Credit Union (Mission Fed) is the largest member-owned, not-for-profit, full-service financial institution exclusively serving San Diego County. Mission Fed enhances the lives of its members through financial education and services, providing stability and strength to help San Diegans with financial wellness and success. Banking at Mission Fed means doing good for San Diego. Mission Fed gives money back to our local communities, has helped hundreds of nonprofits and important causes, and builds deep relationships with community partners. Ron Araujo is the President of Mission Federal Services, LLC and leads Mission Fed’s “CUSO” – or Credit Union Service Organization. CUSOs provide financial services primarily to credit unions and their members and help pool resources and reduce credit union service costs. Previously, Araujo also served as Chief Financial Officer for Mission Fed.

#1 I grew up in San Diego, first in Barrio Logan and then East County.

#2 I have seven middle names.

#3 I have been to a lot of places in California and have not been disappointed yet. I would like to travel to more of South America. I have been to Brazil but that is it (so far…).

#4 It is on my bucket list to hike the Appalachian Trail.

#5 I consider pretty much anything that my daughters have made for me over the past 20+ years to be sentimental items.

#6 I have been an Investment Advisor for most of my career and through that I eventually entered the credit union movement. Once we committed to San Diego, Mission Fed was a natural fit given their presence in the community.

#7 Our Mission: Earning trust, investing in our membership’s success and caring for our community.

#8 Our Vision: We are the premier financial partner, widely recognized by members, employees and the community for improving lives and providing a superior banking experience.

#9 Our Values: Our values are integrity, service, commitment, teamwork, trust and communication.

#10 At Mission Fed, helping our San Diego community is not just what we do, it is who we ARE! I have served on Mission Fed’s Hispanic Advisory Committee for the last several years. On May 24, 2022, Mission Fed became the first San Diego-based credit union to receive the Juntos Avanzamos designation. Juntos Avanzamos (Together We Advance) is an initiative managed by Inclusiv, an organization dedicated to helping low- and moderate-income communities reach financial security through credit unions. We serve people who do not have another avenue to have their banking needs met. And a lot of them are in the Hispanic community. We did not get the Juntos Avanzamos designation because we are in the community. We got this because the community’s values and spirit – is in Mission Fed.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
