Be the kind of person your dog thinks you already are

Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego (RMHCSD) serves as a home-away-from home for families with a child being treated for a life threatening illness or critical injury at a local children’s hospital. RMHCSD not only provides lodging and meals for more than 1,100 families annually, but also provides support to an additional 12,000 families through their day service program. Community volunteers like Nancy Stanley, are critical for these families going through a difficult time. Nancy’s kindness and generosity makes it possible for families to be together and stay strong during their child’s stay in the hospital.

10 Things About Nancy Stanley & Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego

#1 I grew up in New York.

#2 I think it is important for everyone to have compassion.

#3 I would love to see the gorillas in Africa with Jane Goodall.

#4 I have a dog named Remington and a cat named Nightly.

#5 When I am having a challenging day, I pick up the phone and call my children. My day is immediately better.

#6 What has surprised me most in life is that I am stronger than I ever thought I could be.

#7 Always speak your truth! Always tell those you love how you feel so you never have any regrets. Life is precious and we must protect it at all costs (fur babies included).

#8 I find that with every negative situation, one needs to have a sense of humor.

#9 The Raymundos knew something was wrong when their daughter had a fever that just would not stay down. Valeria was diagnosed with multiple lineage leukemia, a particularly aggressive form of cancer that had spread through 96 percent of the cells in her body. During the first overwhelming nights, the Raymundos slept in their car near the hospital rather than risk being away from their daughter. When a room opened up at the Ronald McDonald House, it became their refuge for the next 150 days and nights – a place where they could rest, cry, find new hope and strength and be together as a family. Five months after her initial diagnosis, Valeria received a bone marrow transplant from a young lady in Poland. Now Valeria is in school again and loves playing with her siblings and dog, Cookie.

#10 Community support is more vital than ever. Providing donations, even $1 makes a difference. In addition, Ronald McDonald House is in need of supplies and food to help the families in their care. Please visit our website for more details.
