“If you help enough people get what they want, you too, will get what you want.”
– Zig Ziglar

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego is dedicated to transforming the lives of young people and empowering them to reach their full potential. The fees at Boys & Girls Clubs Of Greater San Diego are kept low to ensure prices do not deter participation in their program. In addition to already low fees, the Club awarded $382,152 in scholarships last year to help families who needed the financial assistance. Joanne Sellner is a Board Member & An Evening of Changing Lives Chair for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. Support of An Evening of Changing Lives will enable Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego to provide their kids and families with all the life changing tools they need to enhance their education and learn life skills every day.

#6 Unfortunately, we recently had to put down our two dogs but they were a huge part of our lives for 15 years – mother/daughter Skittles & Lily.

#7 I am a firm believer in dedicating time, talent and treasure to worthy causes. Not only does it help others, but it also makes us better people. I have always believed that to whom much is given, much is expected.

#8 The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship, and make healthy lifestyle choices.

#9 I was invited as a guest to the annual gala, An Evening of Changing Lives, 5 or 6 years ago and have attended ever since. I fell in love with an organization that’s primary goal is to help KIDS. They are our future, let us help them be all they can be!

#10 By supporting An Evening of Changing Lives, you will have the opportunity to profoundly impact these youth’s lives. Contributions and participation at our event directly support our educational, recreational, and character-building programs, helping us provide a safe and inclusive space where children and teens can develop essential life skills, build self-confidence, and foster positive relationships. Joining us in this endeavor means becoming part of a collective effort to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity to thrive, succeed, and have a bright future.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
