Symphony at Salk: Jennifer Hudson & San Diego Symphony Celebrate 50 Years

This year’s Symphony at Salk concert under the stars featured the sensational sounds of the San Diego Symphony together with special guest Jennifer Hudson. The event celebrated the 50th anniversary of Salk’s Cancer Center and the many life-changing discoveries its researchers have produced over these decades. As the sun set, the art of Françoise Gilot, wife of the founder of the Institute, Jonas Salk, who died in June at the age of 101, was projected onto the walls of the Institute making for an unforgettable sight. The evening was attended by notable guests including Hinda Nadif, David Shamolian,Bob Rubenstein, Irwin Jacobs, Joan Jacobs, Karla Torosian, Marie Raftery, Tonya Torosian, Brian Kaspar, Philip Balikian, Jennifer Gunsaulaus, Greg Lemke, Jasmin Motlagh, Hal Jacobs, Gerald Joyce, Marna Whittington, Kim Witmer, Mathew Cagney, Rita Kaspar, Lorna York, Bill Gilmore, Barbara Nappi, and Claudia Mathews.

Esteban Villanueva was born in Washington D.C. and raised in La Jolla. He attended both Francis Parker and The Bishop’s School locally before going to Dartmouth College where he received his B.S. in Biology and Pepperdine School of Law where he received his J.D. focusing Entertainment Law. He worked in the Latin music industry where his projects went on to win 14 Grammy Awards for artists including Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana. After starting GB Magazine with Danitza Villanueva in 2007, he has gone on to win awards and recognition from the community for his support of helping raise millions of dollars for non-profit organizations. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Air & Space Museum and resides in East County in San Diego where he and his wife Danitza run DAESVI Publishing, home to GB Magazine, among several other publications.
