Maximizing Your Charitable Giving In The COVID-19 Crisis

Thanks to the generosity of more than 2,190 individuals, companies, foundations and donors at The San Diego Foundation, the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund has raised $8.7 million, but your support is needed.

In response to the COVID-19 coronavirus health crisis, a coalition of philanthropy, government and business partners joined together to create the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund. The Fund is rapidly deploying resources into the community to support San Diegans impacted by this global pandemic and the economic consequences of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Fund is hosted and administered at The San Diego Foundation and is providing critical resources and support for those impacted by the global pandemic. Grantmaking from the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund focuses on food security, other essential living expenses, emergent needs, and rent and utility payment support. The fund is also providing interest-free loans for nonprofit organizations to provide business and community service continuity.

“Government aid is providing some relief in this crisis, but the needs of our communities are vast and nonprofit services are filling those gaps in support,” Mark Stuart, President & CEO of The San Diego Foundation shared with GB Magazine. “The San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund provides nonprofits funding for needs like food assistance for seniors, children and families; housing assistance for low-income individuals; and emergency equipment for hospitals and first responders.”

Organizations that have received grants include San Diego Hunger Coalition, Meals on Wheels, Father Joe’s Villages, American Red Cross, Serving Seniors, ElderHelp of San Diego, Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego, Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Feeding San Diego, United Way of San Diego County and United Way of San Diego County among many others.

With 45 years of community service and more than $1.2 billion granted to nonprofits, thousands of San Diegans trust The San Diego Foundation to steward their charitable giving, especially during times of emergency and crisis. As the region’s community foundation, The Foundation is committed to serving San Diego and getting charitable dollars out into the community to address the region’s most pressing needs. The San Diego Foundation maximizes the impact of your charitable by bolstering them with San Diego corporate donations and donor-advised funds.

One hundred percent of donations to the San Diego COVID-19 Response Fund will be provided to nonprofits helping San Diegans impacted by the coronavirus. Funds will be released on a rolling basis as fundraising continues throughout the coronavirus outbreak and its recovery phases.

The San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund at The San Diego Foundation was created in partnership with San Diego County Supervisor and Co-Chair of the COVID-19 Subcommittee Nathan Fletcher, San Diego Gas & Electric, Qualcomm Foundation, Genentech, Wells Fargo, United Way of San Diego County, San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council, and Imperial Counties Labor Council and AFL-CIO.
