A Limitless 2020

By Angelica Gavaldon

We all want a better life – spiritually, physically and emotionally. There is no better way to achieve that than when we really step out of our comfort zone and make some changes in our lives. It is so easy to focus on all the negative things happening to us, but if we are grateful for all the blessings, we can turn our life around by changing our mindset and getting rid of some habits that limit our potential in life.

Here are the top 4 things you should get rid of in 2020:

Negativity

Negativity is not good for our health. Studies have shown that it affects our brain, alters our moods and causes anxiety and depression. Negative thinking has also been shown to weaken our immune system. It even makes it harder to think clearly. But how do we change our thinking patterns? Being positive is something that can be learned but like with everything else, you must train your brain like a muscle, until the positive thinking becomes so strong you become “allergic” to negativity. For some, it comes easier to look at life in a more positive way. When you are able to accomplish this, you will see how much better you feel and how much more likeable you become.

Toxic People

“Surround yourself with excellence” said the great Andre Agassi. I believe this to be true: if you want to improve your life in every aspect, make sure the people around you are happy with their lives. I don’t know about you, but I like to be around people that truly have my best interests at heart. If you are already vulnerable to negative thinking, you may find yourself around the wrong type of people that will only lower your self-esteem. Be honest with yourself about what each person is bringing into your life and the impact their energy has on you. Start identifying the toxic people in your life and create some boundaries. Life is too short to waste on someone that only brings you misery, so distance yourself if you need to.

Complaining

My father always told me, “Anyone can make a tragedy out of their lives, but always choose to make it a fairy tale, no matter what it brings your way.” Of course, no one’s life is a fairy tale and even in the movies, fairy tales come with some struggle. I have always chosen to look at the positives and not complain about what I don’t like. It’s all part of life – hitting traffic, having bad days, having tragic moments, where we are in our lives, or not liking our job. However, complaining only magnifies the bad. If you can’t change your circumstances, then change the way you look at what you don’t like. Focus on the beautiful things you have in your life.

Making Excuses

If you really want something bad enough you will always find a way. If not, you will always make excuses. I know many say they do not have time for certain things or that they simply cannot get something done, but if it is important, you will always find a way. Do not allow excuses to hold you back from reaching your true potential in life.

While these things cannot be done in one day, consistent efforts to change your mindset will help you live a happier, healthier life in 2020 and beyond.
