The most difficult situations are the ones you learn the most from…

San Diego Opera is committed to creating a lasting cultural service to our community through educational programs and live performances that are accessible and relevant to today’s world and beyond. San Diego Opera’s grand style operas at the Civic Theatre are augmented by unexpected works in venues unique to the San Diego region.

In November of 2016, the Company launched the dētour Series, which explores work that falls outside of traditional operas. In May, the dētour Series will present “The Falling and the Rising” – a story taken directly from interviews with returning Soldiers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, The Old Guard at Fort Myer, and Fort Meade, Maryland and captures the indomitable spirit of U.S. military veterans while shedding light on the inspirational power of their often overlooked stories. The principal roles of “The Falling and the Rising” will feature active service members on a mission to connect civilians to Soldiers.

San Diego Opera Lover’s Ball will feature a cabaret performance by world-renowned soprano Patricia Racette and will honor long time board member, Carol Lazier.
