The University of San Diego Celebrates a Rebirth and Fresh Take on the Student Experience

This fall, the University of San Diego will welcome students back for in-person classes. The school is excited about the rebirth of so much that is new, different and exciting on campus and cannot wait to unveil it all once they arrive. In the wake of the pandemic – while students studied virtually, and many employees worked from remote locations – Alcalá Park was growing and changing.

It was a true Renaissance.

The University opened the Learning Commons, a two-story, 36,000 square-foot building that is home to 13 flexible smart classrooms, a dynamic Town Square and an outdoor plaza. They also renovated Copley Library to feature new study instruction, seminar and reading rooms, event and outdoor spaces and individual seating for 1,000 users as well as enhancing Camino Hall and Founders Hall, two of the school’s original buildings. Most recently, The University broke ground on a new, 120,000 square-foot complex, known as the Knauss Center for Business Education.

During COVID-19, USD amplified voices that sometimes strain to be heard, told stories that need to be told and represented those who have been underrepresented. They made a Torero education even more accessible to all students – especially those who are marginalized – by growing existing scholarships, establishing new scholarships and creating emergency funds for students who have been hit hardest by COVID-19 and are most in need.

To further support student scholars, USD will host its Founders Gala on November 13, 2021. In keeping with the spirit of the Renaissance, the gala will be held off campus for the first time ever, at Petco Park. Net proceeds will support USD student scholarships.

The theme is Field of Dreams and guests will experience an evening under the gleaming lights of Petco Park and enjoy cocktails, gourmet food, silent and live auctions and special entertainment. Unlike any before, the 2021 Founders Gala is not to be missed!
