For the past seven years, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) has hosted their “Swing with Santa” golf tournament, and this year will be no different. On Friday, November 6th, guests are invited to join SMSC at the Pine Glen 18 Hole Par 3 Executive Golf Course at Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan. The Tournament is held annually to help support SMSC’s annual Student Appreciation Holiday Celebration that takes place later in the year. All funds raised from the golf tournament will go towards providing each SMSC student with a $20 gift card at the celebration. The Celebration will also feature live holiday music, a festive ugly sweater contest, art ornament presentations, and a visit from Santa himself!

Debra Emerson, CEO of SMSC, is thankful for meaningful support and hopes that the community can help make this holiday season an unforgettable one for SMSC’s students: “I would like to thank all of our generous supporters for keeping St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center in your thoughts during this unprecedented time. Our staff is working tirelessly to continue to provide heartfelt care and valuable programs to our students. Now, more than ever, we need our community’s help to make the tournament a success to fund this wonderful, heartwarming celebration during the holidays for our over 400 students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am very excited to see a mix of new and familiar faces at our ‘Swing with Santa’ golf tournament!”

“Swing with Santa” participants can expect a fun day of games and prizes at select holes, an opportunity drawing, and SMSC’s first ever Golf Ball Drop. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 12:00 noon. This year, the event is being held in honor of Don Parent, who was an active participant in many local businesses and community organizations and was a dedicated advocate for SMSC (Pictured in Elvis costume). Individual golfers and foursomes can register. Each foursome includes two (2) golf carts. No experience is necessary to play and clubs will be available for rent. All golfers will receive a round of golf, lunch, and a gift bag. Various sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are also available. Please contact Joe Perucca or Katie Pennell at 619-442-5129 for more information.

For more than 50 years, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center has been educating and empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Founded in 1966 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, the Center first focused on pre-school children with developmental disabilities, but when public schools began to assume that role in the early 1970s, SMSC shifted its focus to adults with developmental disabilities. Located in El Cajon, SMSC provides work training and social experiences that encourage students to become well-rounded, contributing members of the greater community. It employs over 120 staff members and is served by more than 150 dedicated volunteers. A fleet of 45 paratransit vans and buses transports students between home, campus, and work sites, five days a week. The Center also strives to educate the community about the realities of developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy.
