Thomas Bancroft

#1 I was born and raised in Bend, Oregon.

#2 I enjoy Puerto Vallarta when I want to relax and New York City when I want excitement. I would like to visit Barcelona in the next year or two. It is on my bucket list to do a cross-country road trip in an RV.

#3 My alternate-universe career choice would be a backup dancer in Los Angeles.

#4 I recommend Emotional Agility by Susan David, PhD to anyone who is looking to bring out the best in themselves and learn how our thoughts, emotions, and motives can empower or derail us.

#5 I have been lucky to have some amazing mentors and I admire each of them for not only their perseverance and insight, but also their dedication to making a difference. Each has found a way to turn passion into impact and they inspire me to always make time for making a difference.

Dog

#6 I have a Dachshund-Retriever mix named Phoebe and a horse named Will-o’-the-Wisp.

#7 ‘Service above self’ has been a guiding principle for me. I believe we have individual responsibility to build up our communities and create a better future for the next generation.

#8 DPR Construction has a long-standing relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs. As builders, we can make the biggest impact doing what we do best – facility construction and renovation. We also work toward our vision by providing career and education guidance to youth as well as operational support to our non-profit partners.

#9 Contributions and participation at “An Evening of Changing Lives Gala” directly supports our educational, recreational, and character-building programs, helping us provide a safe and inclusive space where children and teens can develop essential life skills, build self-confidence, and foster positive relationships.

#10 Support of “An Evening of Changing Lives Gala” will enable us to provide our kids and families with all the life changing tools they need on a daily basis. Our youth are provided the tools to enhance their education, make healthy choices, and learn life skills every day. Our fees are kept low to ensure prices do not deter participation in our program plus we awarded $292,456 in scholarships last year.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
