“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t – you’re right”.
– Henry Ford

Episcopal Community Services (ECS) is a nonprofit organization that provides health and human services to more than 10,500 clients and families in the areas of homelessness, mental health, substance use disorders, and early childhood education. All ECS programs offer additional wraparound services that follow a trauma-informed, strength-based, needs-driven approach to engage students, family members, and clients. Chris Connolly serves as a board member for ECS.

#1 I am a “Valley Boy” – I grew up in Tarzana, CA.

#2 I really love to travel in general; I have especially enjoyed trips to New Zealand in recent years. I am looking forward to visiting the south of France this summer!

#3 I enjoy watching sports and spending time biking, walking and swimming at the beach. It is on my bucket list to get a paddle board this summer and spend time paddling in the ocean!

#4 I created a children’s app and toy line at Disney called “Disney Princess Palace Pets”. It was the most downloaded Disney children’s app ever at the time when I worked at Disney. It was a career highlight to create an entertainment property from scratch and see how much it resonated with children globally.

#5 I am a big kid at heart, worked at Hasbro Toys for 10 years and therefore was enthralled with the original “Toy Story” film.

#6 Our dog Princess Peach gets as much attention as our two daughters Caroline and Olivia, so I guess we really have three children at present.

#7 The Dale Carnegie classic “How to Win Friends and Influence People” has more direct impact on my career success than any other book. I have read it religiously every year for the past 30+ years.

#8 A wonderful Episcopal priest from our former church in Kentucky once said that “the best way to serve God is to serve others.” I have never forgotten that sermon quote and it has helped inspire me to lead a life of service.

#9 ECS is dedicated to addressing the root causes of substance use disorders, homelessness, and poverty through a holistic approach that includes emergency assistance, transitional housing, and behavioral healthcare services while also advocating for policies that promote social justice and support of vulnerable populations.

#10 “Evening on the Bay” will raise critical funds to support ECS programs that provide vital services to individuals and families facing homelessness, behavioral health issues, substance use disorders, and early childhood education needs.

My love and appreciation for nonprofit work began in college when I was selected to represent UCLA’s undergraduate service organization. As a student, I didn’t have a lot of money to donate but I quickly learned that I could make an impact by giving my time. All you have to do to make a difference in someone’s life is care. For the last 30 years, San Diego has been my home. During this time, I have served on over 17 boards and chaired 27 fundraisers. No matter how much work I do with nonprofits, I am always amazed at the number of awesome causes and dedicated supporters out there. San Diego definitely has the best weather in the world but what makes San Diego America’s finest city are the people. I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to live in a city that has so many kind and selfless souls who genuinely care about making our community a better place for everyone. As Giving Back Magazine’s Philanthropy Editor, each week, I feature a hero and the causes that are creating a positive difference in our world. Always remember that philanthropy is about more than giving money, it’s about caring enough to help others who are in pain. So, go out there and make every moment count!
